American Moving and Storage - Taking the stress out of your move

FAQ: Can I Pack My Clothes In a Chest or Dresser Drawers?

Are my goods protected while in transitShould I Empty Dresser Drawers for the Move?

Lightweight clothing – sweaters, shirts, blouses, and lingerie – may be left in the drawers. However, if the dresser is rickety, broken, or otherwise unstable, it’s not the best idea to move your dresser with added weight and bulk inside.

Do not fill drawers with heavy items such as books, table linens or sheets, which can damage the piece of furniture during transit.

Be careful NOT to leave fragile items, money, jewelry, watches or other valuables in the drawers, as well as anything that might spill or leak.

If there are stairs or a long carry involved with your move, either at origin or destination you should empty the drawers to make the pieces easier to handle. Also, if you plan to have your items stored you may want to pack your items in boxes.
